PACT Research

Forums brought together Chemical Technology professionals to discuss issues in educating a new generation of chemical technicians. An important part of networking is the PACT Educator series of forums. Reports from past forums are listed below.

• PACT Research Profile Study: Applying What We've Learned to Recruiting Efforts (Download 78k PDF file.)
  Participants developed ideas about how to apply Research Profile Study findings to their own institutions' recruiting efforts. They also explored the implications of the study for curriculum development.
• Recruiting Students and Developing Work Ethic in Technician Education
  Participants at this forum discussed the challenges of recruiting students into ChemTech programs and how to prepare students better for the workplace by teaching work ethic along with other "hard skills."
• Professionalism of the Chemical Technician Career
  Participants at this forum discussed the challenges of increasing career awareness and ensuring the professionalism of the chemical technology career.
• PACT Conference on Chemical Technology Curricula: II
  Chemical technology educators from across the country shared innovative ideas for curriculum development and laboratory experiences.
• PACT Forum on Chemical Technology Curricula: I
  Chemical technology educators from across the country shared innovative ideas for curriculum development and laboratory experiences.
• Novel Approaches to Foster Industrial/Academic Partnerships
  The symposium explored ways to foster industrial/academic interaction in two- and four-year college chemistry and chemical technology programs. Includes abstracts of talks that were presented at the symposium.
• Innovative Classroom Experiences
  This symposium presented information on how the Partnership for the Advancement of Chemical Technology (PACT) Consortium is reaching chemistry and chemical technology students with innovative classroom experiences.

PACT efforts led to the creation of several resources for chemical technology educators.

• Marketing Plan for Chemical Technology Programs (Download 19k PDF file.)
  A general marketing plan for chemical technology programs was developed based on the findings of the Research Profile Study and the successful efforts of participating recruiters from both academia and industry.
• PACT Research Profile Study
  This study was constructed to develop an understanding of the learning/teaching styles, personality traits, attitudes, and values of chemical technology students and instructors and practicing chemical technicians.
• Chemical Technology: A Career of Choice (Download 823k PDF file.) Chemical technicians are in demand. This brochure contains industries, job placement, salaries, and more. You can add local information or share it with students as it is.
