What Is the OSCI Program for Grades 7-10?
The Ohio Science Institutes (OSCI) Program for grades 7–10 promotes increased student achievement in science through a deeper understanding of content, standards-based instruction, and inquiry-oriented teaching, and through ongoing professional development for science teachers.
The program includes the following:
- An intensive five-day summer 2005 foundation workshop, one fall 2005 Saturday meeting, and one spring 2006 Saturday meeting (these seven days are referred to as “the Institute”)
Teachers participating in the entire OSCI 7-10 program will experience rich lessons
and assessment strategies to use with your students and be supported through
a mentoring process as you integrate lessons into your curriculum. You’ll
also be joining a community of teachers with similar interests and concerns.

Who Should Attend OSCI 7-10 Programs?
OSCI 7-10 is designed for science teachers of grades 7–10 in Ohio. Participants are strongly encouraged to attend in teams so that the team can work together to implement activities and strategies from the Institute. Special education teachers and those needing content certification in order to meet the NCLB highly qualified teacher requirement are strongly encouraged to attend.
Due to extensive changes in the program from last year, participants
in last year’s program may sign up to retake any of the 2004 topics.
