The Lather Up! Hand Washing Activity Handbook challenges teens to discover the relationship between disease prevention and hand washing. Engaging readings and activities involve teens in explorations of the 19th century discovery that hand washing helps to keep patients from dying, the science of microbes, hand-washing techniques, controversy about anti-microbial soaps, and the chemistry of how soap gets our hands clean. Students finish the project by creating some designer soaps of their own.
