Paper Science for Teachers

Terrific Science Workshops Application COURSE OVER

We live in an age of fast-paced electronic technology, yet still use a huge quantity of paper each day. Paper scientists and paper engineers keep this big industry on the cutting edge and enable it to keep up with demand. This workshop will show you how to link science activities taught in your classroom to real-world applications of paper science and technology. You'll learn about the fundamental concepts of paper pulping, paper making and testing, the chemistry of paper, recycling, energy, and environmental impact. You will do hands-on labs and tour a paper plant.

Program Benefits

  • tuition: All tuition and most fees provided
  • credit*: 2 semester hours of credit provided
  • stipend*: $75 stipend to cover out-of-pocket expenses
  • Travel minigrant: up to $75 based on distance from Miami University Oxford campus
  • course materials provided
  • food and housing: lunch provided; limited double-occupancy rooms available for those outside the immediate area
  • partial substitute reimbursement of up to $65 for May 13

* Credit and stipend awarded upon meeting all course requirements, including completing a final project, using course materials with target groups, and reporting results. Graduate credit requires previous completion of a bachelor's degree from an accredited university/college.
