Health Is Elementary

Terrific Science Workshops ApplicationCOURSE OVER 
  • participants: teachers of grades 3–6
  • dates:
    4-day workshops plus implementation, reporting, and May 2005 follow-up; choose one of the following:
    • July 12–15, 2004 + May 13–14, 2005
    • July 19–22, 2004 + May 13–14, 2005
  • location: Miami University Middletown (OH)

Help your students understand the role they play in their own health. Do you know the hidden dangers of shaking hands? Can you entice your students to learn to read by showing how this skill could keep them healthy and protect their pets? This workshop will show you how to challenge your students to think about the choices they make every day and how these choices affect their health. Learn lots of fun facts and hands-on activities to help you weave science and health throughout your curriculum.

Program Benefits

  • tuition: All tuition and most fees provided
  • credit*: 3 semester hours of credit provided
  • stipend*: $100 stipend to cover out-of-pocket expenses
  • Travel minigrant: up to $100 based on distance from Miami University Middletown
  • course materials provided
  • food and housing: lunch provided; limited double-occupancy rooms available for those outside the immediate area
  • partial substitute reimbursement of up to $65 for May 13

* Credit and stipend awarded upon meeting all course requirements, including completing a final project, using course materials with target groups, and reporting results. Graduate credit requires previous completion of a bachelor's degree from an accredited university/college.
